13-year-old murdered by peer

SEBOKENG. – Zone 17 residents were robbed of a young man, Kabelo Mbhele, who was stabbed to death and his peer faces the hands of justice.

The incident happened recently when an undisclosed argument erupted between these two young teens, which led to an unfortunate death. The suspect and the deceased locked horns in a verbal fight. It is alleged the deceased fled the verbal clash and the suspect later followed him up saying: “Say what you were saying earlier on!”

Apparently the deceased did not see it coming as the suspect had a knife in his hand and stabbed the deceased once. He died in hospital an hour after a medical team struggled to stabilise him. Police opened a case of murder and the suspect was detained and placed under parental supervision.

According to residents the suspect has been the talk of the area due to his violent behaviour. The suspect was also apparently expelled from school due to this. Police spokesperson Major Teboho Lephoto says a case of murder has been opened and is being investigated. He confirms that the suspects is under 13 years of age.

The suspect appeared before a Sebokeng magistrate. The case was postponed and the suspect was placed under parental supervision.
Sedibeng Ster asked the victim’s family to speak out on how they feel about the situation and their loss. Moshe Sekonyela, a cousin, says they are devastated and can’t explain the pain they undergo daily when they think of Kabelo Mbhele:
“A very focused boy from whom we expected and hoped only the best has been lost. We have lost a treasure,” says Sekonyela.
