SEBOKENG. – Angry Boitumelo residents displayed their uncompromising grievances on Wednesday morning by barricading the main road with huge rocks and trees.

This group of community members closed down the ‘Zozo’ Clinic which they call a ‘dump site.’ They asked everyone at the clinic to carry on working there at their own risk.
Since 2003 this community has been lobbying for a proper functional clinic. “We have vented our anger many times; we have been to both provincial and the local municipal health department’s offices. Still we don’t have a proper clinic. We have dealt with MMCs and MEC’s. They come here and depart after making many empty promises – without us getting a proper clinic,” said a group of angry residents, addressing Emfuleni Local Municipality Community Safety MMC Veli Mcera during the protest.
“We want action to be taken on the issue of the clinic. We cannot fight for one thing for more than 12 years,” said Jabu Dlomo, a community member.
Mcera asked the community not to ‘mess up’ what they had out of anger: “Let us protest but only to add to what we have. We cannot destroy the purpose of all marches and application letters over the years just like that. I put my head on a block. So does my office – all to allocate answers for you in a progressive meeting that embraces all relevant stakeholders on the matter,” said Mcera.
