ORANGE FARM. – Two suspects were arrested for attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, and business robbery on Wednesday.
Apparently these two suspects were armed when they attacked and robbed a foreigner’s tuck shop in Extension 6.
An undisclosed sum of money was taken from the shop as the two suspects forced entry from the back. Police were alerted to the situation and responded quickly to the emergency.
However, the two suspects split up when the community crowded into the area. One suspect was apprehended by Police and one ran toward Palm Springs Mall.
Captain Johannes Motsiri confirms that, when both suspects went their separate ways, they were still armed. The first suspect was disarmed by residents, which is to say, actually ‘robbed’ of it. Police came to his rescue and arrested him.
“It is alleged that a community member, who is known to the community, robbed him of his gun and ran away,” said Motsiri.
The second suspect was shot by Police at the mall during a shoot-out that erupted when Police were searching for him.
A bystander said, “This mall is becoming more dangerous every day and putting innocent lives in danger.” People said they had just survived a month of taxi violence. Now it was a shoot out.
One suspect has appeared before a magistrate. He was charged with business robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, while the other one is still in hospital.
