SHARPEVILLE. – The body of 42-year-old Fezile ‘Sofa’ Saule had to be removed from his neighbours’ shack after he burned to death in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday.
According to neighbour Aletta Nzamela, Saule was a person who moved around a lot, sleeping here and there. He did not wish to stay with the rest of his family. “In the early hours of the morning, one of my family members started to scream after hearing that there was somebody calling for help in the shack. We went outside to see what was going on and we realised that there was indeed someone trapped inside the shack. We assumed it was Fezile because we saw his dogs outside the shack.”
Nzamela says they use the shack to store old things they no longer use. “I now ask myself what the consequences of Fezile’s death will be since he died at my house.”
The Saule family members confirm that Fezile was a person who liked to move around a lot, a person who liked to be on his own doing his own thing, sometimes even sleeping on the streets. “We are really saddened by what has happened to Fezile. Nobody deserves to burn to death.”
“In the last past days he kept on speaking about death, as if he could sense what was going to happen.”
The family reassured the neighbours that there was nobody to blame for the tragic incident, adding that they all knew and accepted Fezile for who he was.
