Taking a stance against Epilepsy

SEDIBENG. - “It is the same as it is with cancer, HIV and TB - if you are not infected you are affected by epilepsy.”

SEDIBENG. – “It is the same as it is with cancer, HIV and TB – if you are not infected you are affected by epilepsy.” These are the words of youthful radio personality Monosi ‘Mambokazi’ Motloung emphasising the need to campaign and raise awareness against Epilepsy.

Motloung’s Monosi Trading Enterprise and Soul Provider together with other stake holders will hold an awareness campaign on epilepsy at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Centre on June 19.

It is expected that through the provision of information to the masses, it will be possible for people to handle epilepsy attacks happening around them with much-needed care and know-how. One of the key goals is to ensure that the workshop experience transforms the delegates into epilepsy ambassadors and educators.

“As one of the most common neurological conditions in South African communities, statistics show that it affects one in every one hundred South Africans. Many people have come to associate this condition with mental illness or some form of a physical disorder, which is absolutely untrue.

“As a person living with epilepsy, I strongly feel that not enough noise or awareness is made about my condition in South Africa as a whole. I also feel and believe that it is about time that the communities are informed about epilepsy. As much as it is overlooked and underrated, it is as dangerous and deadly as any other disease or disorder out there,” Motloung says.

Badges, ribbons, stickers, key holders and many other accessories are sold in support of the campaign. For more details on these call 082 862 1699
