A Grade 11 learner from Promosa Secondary School died in a car accident at 21:25 on 6 June. Elizabeth ‘Modighy’ Paulsen’s death has saddened those who were close to her.

The 19-year-old was with her cousin and her brother-in-law, on their way from Klerksdorp to Potchefstroom when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

“The driver lost control of the vehicle and went off the road and it overturned,” says Captain Mvula Chaka, police spokesperson. Modighy was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to her mom, Levouge Paulsen, the driver was discharged from the hospital yesterday and the cousin only sustained minor injuries.

According to the grieving mom, she only received a call at 04:30 on Sunday morning, with the news that there has been an accident and that her daughter has died.

“I’m going to miss her dearly. That big, beautiful smile.. that is what I’m going to miss the most,” she says.
“She had dreams, dreams to build me a house, dreams to build her grandmother a house. She wanted to finish school.

“Modighy was always happy, forever smiling. She had so much peace within her. She never really got angry and the times she did, she got over it really quickly,” Levouge added.

Modighy’s funeral service will start from their home in Park Street at 8:30 on Saturday, 13 June, moving to the Promosa Community Hall thereafter.
