Stolen cable reduces water

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Last week water interruptions in Vanderbijlpark were announced on Facebook by Emfuleni municipal spokesperson Stanley Gaba.

Most areas in Vanderbijlpark woke up to dry or reduced-flow taps as the result of a stolen electricity cable at the municipality’s reservoirs in Vanderbijlpark. The pumps were unable to send water back into communities, resulting in a water shortage in these areas. Areas especially affected were Vanderbijlpark, Tshepiso, Bophelong and Boipatong.

The problem persisted throughout the morning while repairs were made to the damage caused by the electricity thieves. Communities were advised to take precautionary measures in relation to water usage in those affected areas until the water was fully restored. The municipality appeals to consumers to work together to curb the crisis.

“Let us work together to root out criminals that destroy public property,” Gaba concludes.
