“I use this road every day. It is very part of my life. Now it has turned into a nightmare. I nearly lost my legs and hands and my face is scarred. The driver ran over me and left the scene. However, I’m grateful that by the grace of God I’m still alive,” he said. Apparently Mareletse was crossing from Zone 7 to Zone 8 when a white Mitsubishi van suddenly appeared and hit him, dragging him a few metres from the point of collision to a stationary motion.

“I was with my friend. I don’t know what occurred but the last time I opened my eyes I was in pain and stood in the middle of the road asking what I had done,” says the victim, his hands, legs and face wounded.

He added that he stood in the middle of the road, stunned, while his friend chased the car to check the number plate:
“Unfortunately he only managed to get the first three letters ZXW GP. The driver of the runaway vehicle took a few turns via Zone 8 near Happy Valley and soon after vanished.

I wish he could see what he has done and I admit it could have been worse,” explains a furious Mareletse. A case of hit-and-run has been opened with the Evaton Police and is being investigated.
