EFF concerned about the state of municipal buildings

"As a society, we should not normalise mediocrity or become complacent in the face of mismanagement.”

VEREENIGING.- The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in Sedibeng has said that it is deeply concerned about the “deplorable conditions” of the Sedibeng District Municipality’s (SDM) buildings in Vereeniging.

The SDM has its main offices, including the council chambers, located in Vereeniging.

“As part of our ongoing oversight efforts across the region, the EFF recently visited the offices to assess the current situation. As a society, we should not normalise mediocrity or become complacent in the face of mismanagement.”

The EFF Sedibeng Chairperson Isaac Khithika said the state of the buildings is unacceptable.

“The pavement, which has underground tunnels, is sinking, and the main building has significant cracks. If action is not taken, the council chambers may collapse. As an organization that operates on superior logic and since we don’t recognise the mayor, we will engage with the MMC of Corporate Services through the Section 80 Committee of Council. At the appropriate time, we will also propose immediate remedial actions to the council. It cannot be business as usual when there is a risk of a building collapse.”
