Woman leads normal life following operation

In 2018, Ntoane sought help from her local clinic when she developed a growth on the back of her head. Ntoane said the growth was foreign to her and she didn’t know what to call it.

EVATON – Rethabile Ntoane (27) was all smiles when Ster North visited her home on September 23. Ntoane said the reason for her laughter was her recent operation at Sebokeng Hospital, which saw a growth that had been bothering her for the past six years removed.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Ntoane said her life had changed for the better.

“I am so grateful for the life-changing event; I feel like a normal human and I can now be part of my community without feeling ashamed of my physical appearance.”

In 2018, Ntoane sought help from her local clinic when she developed a growth on the back of her head. Ntoane said the growth was foreign to her and she didn’t know what to call it.

Ntoane said she had been sent from pillar to post for six years without getting any help from Sebokeng Hospital.

Ntoane said her recent operation has given her a new leaf on life and she is excited about her future.

“I no longer experience those headaches that I used to have. A heavy burden has been lifted off my shoulders.”

“I am looking forward to going back to school. There were so many things that I was afraid to do because of the way my head looked. Now that I feel normal again, I would like to go back to school and further my studies.”

The Gauteng Department of Health confirmed Ntoane’s operation.

“Ntoane was a surgical patient who required an elective surgical procedure. The prioritisation of emergency surgeries over elective ones led to delays. Ntoane was on the waiting list for surgery. However, she managed to get booked for the surgery at Sebokeng Hospital and the surgery was done on her successfully.”
