Stallwart in Vaal Triangle's Local Government honoured with prestigious award

VEREENIGING. – The Congress of Business and Economics (CBE), a Johannesburg based business organisation, included well-known Vaal resident and Emfuleni’s Acting Municipal Manager, Yunus Chamda, amongst its list of recipients of the prestigious “Distinguished Service to Society” Award.
At the Awards evening and gala dinner held on December 3, the CBE presented awards to a list of distinguished South Africans who have made a valuable contribution to society.
When approached by Vaalweekblad for comment about his award, Mr Chamda said: “I am completely a product of years of positive influence by great men and women, exemplary support of family and friends, learning from bitter lessons of huge mistakes, lots and lots of good fortune that can only be the blessings of the Almighty, and some things that I can neither fathom nor decode. So, I went up on behalf of all of you to collect the Recognition Award at the CBE”.
Other high profile recipients were Premier David Makhura, D Mayor Fawzia Peer, Firoz Cachalia, Prof Jerry Coovadia, Krish Naidoo, Marc Lubner, Vali Moosa, Minister Naledi Pandor, Judge Jody Kollapen, Popo Molefe, Prema Naidoo, Dr Ridwaan Mia, Sayed Mia, Yasmin Sooka, Zubeida Jaffer, and the late Cas Coovadia and Essop S Bhana.
Lifetime Achievement Award recipients were Justice Dikgang Moseneke, Ebrahim Ebrahim, Dr Essop Jassat, Frene Ginwala, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman and Trevor Manual.
* Mr Chamda is in the running for the position as permanent Municipal Manager of the Emfuleni Local Municipality. Although Vaalweekblad learned that a successful candidate was appointed last week, no official comment from Council was available when this report was filed.
