Boots on the ground in honour of women’s month

Sedibeng District Commissioner Major General Nkhensani Lemba expressed her gratitude to the women in uniform, thanking them for the work they do in various communities.

SEBOKENG – Operation Shanela recently saw women in law enforcement from the Sedibeng district at the forefront as they celebrated Women’s Month. The operation took place in Sebokeng along Moshoeshoe Road on August 8, just a day before Women’s Day. The event was led by Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba and Colonel Stofina Mofokeng.

Speaking about the operation, Ndaba highlighted that women make a significant impact in fighting crime on a daily basis.

“The objective of this operation is to maintain law and order in the Sebokeng policing precinct. Some of our members were deployed to follow tip-offs and also check on illegal businesses in the township. We also had a roadblock where we conducted a stop and search to check that our motorists are adhering to the rules of the road.”

Ndaba said the number of motorists driving without valid driver’s licenses and license disks is very concerning. She urged motorists to get their matters in order.

“The operation is being carried out in conjunction with our male colleagues who are supporting us. We are grateful because they play a very important role.”

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed that 30 people were arrested for various crimes such as selling liquor without a valid license, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“During the roadblock, the drivers and passengers were given pamphlets to educate them about GBV and hijackings.”

The women in uniform also went to Sharpeville where illegal immigrants were arrested and vehicles and people were searched.

“Police patrolled the area and also visited filling stations, taxi ranks, malls, tuck shops, second-hand dealers and shebeens.”
