Sedibeng’s female law enforcers honoured in style

Dozens of female law enforcers were pampered last week in celebration of Women's Day.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Police in Sedibeng rolled out the red carpet for fearless women in law enforcement on August 8.

The event, held at Villa Verde, saw powerful women from various agencies all dressed to impress in their finest coats and heels.

These remarkable women, who typically spend their days patrolling the streets and ensuring public safety, came together for a day of inspiration and solidarity. Police officers, traffic enforcers, health practitioners, and social development workers joined forces in what can only be described as a celebration of strength, resilience, and style.

The event wasn’t just about looking good but rather about tackling the tough issues that these women face both on and off duty.

During the event, speakers touched on real-life challenges – from dealing with domestic abuse to managing the stress of supporting unemployed partners.

These are the headaches that many women in law enforcement quietly endure, and the event aimed to shine a light on these struggles while offering support and solutions.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Vereeniging station commander Brigadier Sibongile Ndaba explained the purpose behind the gathering.

“We drew inspiration from 1956 when different women such as Helen Joseph, Lillian Ngoyi, and others took a stand to say it was enough. The game has changed, but women are still suffering. We are suffering from domestic violence and we can’t vent,” she said.

“As women, let us not undermine ourselves because we want to prove to the other gender our stance in managerial positions. Grace put us in these positions and this is a day to honour the women who do so much for our community. It’s about recognising their struggles and giving them the tools to overcome them,” she said.

Sedibeng District Municipality’s Chief Whip Mamohale Moloi expressed the municipality’s full support for the women who work tirelessly to keep the community safe.

Moloi highlighted the need for ongoing support for female law enforcers and praised their unwavering dedication.

“It was a good programme to be a part of. Seeing women being brought together and given strength and courage, warmed my heart,” she said.

Some of the well-known names who attended the event included the former Emfuleni Local Municipality Speaker Maipato Tsokolibane and Brigadier Nikiwe Sefatsa, among many others.
