Female officers conduct a roadblock to mark Women’s month

The municipality said the officers collected a little under R25 000 in overdue traffic fines and 18 summons to the tune of R9000.

VANDERBIJILPARK.- A successful joint operation with SAPS was conducted on Friday in celebration of Women’s Month.

Female law enforcement officers conducted a roadblock at the Barrage Road.

The Gauteng Department of Community Safety and the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) public safety and crime prevention wardens also joined the operation.

ELM said the operation was focused on various aspects like checking traffic fines, law enforcement, and a stop and search for dangerous weapons and stolen goods was also conducted.

The municipality said the officers collected a little under R25 000 in overdue traffic fines and 18 summons to the tune of R9000.

Due to a concerning increase in acts of crime in the area, law enforcement officers in the region have committed to visible policing as an ongoing measure of the municipal crime prevention strategy.

Following the operation, the Chief Superintendent in the Public Safety Department, Mantlhake Moeti, indicated that the roadblock was fruitful as the women in uniform ensured compliance and road safety.

“ELM continues to encourage motorists not to neglect the importance of fastening a seatbelt, not speeding and general road safety compliance.  Road safety remains everyone’s responsibility and it’s in working together that we can achieve a safer environment for all road users,” the municipality said in a statement.

The municipality further encourages members of the public to ensure that fines, municipal accounts and other payments are made as required.
