A partnership to develop Sedibeng’s creative industry

“We believe that this initiative not only nurtures talent but also creates opportunities for economic growth within the creative industry.”

EVATON.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality, the South African Arts and Culture Youth Forum (SAACYF), the National Film and Video Foundation and the Gauteng Film Commission are currently running a From the Script to The Screen training for aspiring filmmakers in the Vaal Triangle at Mafatsane Hall in Evaton.

The training started on July 17 and will end on August 23.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, the coordinator of the programme who is also SAACYF’s Provincial Secretary, Tshepo Mokoena, said that their aim is to develop local writers and actors.

“SAACYF is a non-profit organisation driven by a passion for economic transformation within the creative and cultural industry. Our focus is on skills-development and training for young people in the creative industry. Our mission is to empower previously disadvantaged communities with minimal access to information and resources through workshops and training programmes,” said Mokoena.

He added that the training is also designed to empower emerging filmmakers in the art of creating quality television content, from the inception of an idea to the production of a film.

“We believe that this initiative not only nurtures talent but also creates opportunities for economic growth within the creative industry.”
