Bedworth Centre gives children powerful weapon

The books that were donated were for foundation and primary phase.

SHARPEVILLE. – The 67 minutes that are celebrated on Mandela Day are a symbolic representation of Mandela’s lifetime of service and dedication to making the world a better place.

It is with this in mind that the Bedworth Centre donated 67 books for 67 minutes of Mandela Day to honour Nelson Mandela’s legacy and continue his work towards making the world a better place, at Vuyo Primary School in Sharpeville last Wednesday.

Nelson Mandela’s love for reading and learning was contagious, inspiring generations of children and adults to embrace education and make a positive impact in the world. That is why Bedworth centre decided that on their 67 minutes they would donate books to young children and let them embrace education, grooming them from a young age.

Sihle Makama, the Marketing Manager of Bedworth centre said, “Today we are celebrating Mandela’s birthday and we are celebrating it in a way we believe he would have celebrated when he was still with us, by empowering young people with education. As we know that Mandela used to teach us that education is the key to our success. We saw that as we want to celebrate Mandela’s birthday and there’s a school around our community that needs to be empowered, so that’s when we decided to come and donate 67 books for Mandela.”

67 books were donated in honoring the legacy of Nelson Mandela and children promised to go in the library regularly to read.

The books that were donated were for foundation and primary phase. Some were for educational purposes and some were for comedy. The learners of Vuyo Primary we encouraged to come in the library and read at least one chapter a day in order to activate their minds and imagination.

Sibusiso Cyril Nyembe, the Principal of Vuyo Primary thanked the Bedworth Centre for handing over 67 books for 67 minutes of Mandela day. He said that he believes that this is a very good initiative that will make an impact to the lives of young children.

“ Education is a powerful weapon as it breaks poverty and inequality cycles. Children should harness the power of education to create a brighter future for them.”
