Mandela Day celebrations

"It was a great day for all of us to do something positive in the community in the name of Mandela Day.”

SEDIBENG.- A hive of activities were organised throughout Sedibeng in the spirit of the iconic former South African President, Nelson Mandela, yesterday, Thursday.

This was in celebration of Mandela Day.

Sedibeng Ster brings all the activities that took place at various venues in Sedibeng to embrace the spirit of Mandela Day as local big co-operates, businesses, organisations and individuals were like ‘brothers and sisters’ in arms, serving their communities. Some of the companies and organisations that made used of this day to plough back to the community include Arcelor Mittal, AV Theron & Swanepoel INC Attorneys Firm, Bula Pelo Charity Organisation and Thusong Community Project which took their time off the office to contribute positively to the community.

Arcelor Mittal Management and staff, known as ‘men and women of steel’, spent the day at Thusong Community Project dishing soup for the charity organisation. They also visited the Dante Chan Christian Centre in Vanderbijlpark where they helped with dishing out soup for the community members.

This is a team of men and women, led by Prudence Masike who is responsible for project.

“This is part of Arcelor Mittal ploughing back to the community and we have been involved in the number of projects and Thusong Community Projects is one of them. It was a great day for all of us to do something positive in the community in the name of Mandela Day,” said Masike.

AV Theron & Swanepoel INC Attorneys from Sasolburg donated a R 5000 cheque to the Thusong Community Projects which was  received by the General Manager, Daisy Makume who was grateful for this donation.

Bula Pelo Charity Organisation also embarked on a charity drive providing the Boipatong community, young and old with food at the Boipatong Community Hall. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Moeketsi Matsoso, who is the head of the organisation hailed this event a great success, feeding more than 500 people in the community.
