Local ex-professional players complete CAF B License Diploma Coaching

"It was great sharing the classroom with some of my teammates and those I played against."

BOPHELONG.- Papi Zothwane completed his CAF B Diploma Coaching Course hosted by SAFA in conjunction with CAF in Ekurhuleni which came to an end  last Wednesday.

This coaching course was attended by PSL and Motsepe Foundation Championships coaches including the ex-professional players.

Some of the former professional players who attended this marathon coaching course were Thabo September, Joseph “Duku Duku” Makhanya, Kurt Lentjies and former Bafana Bafana Captain Aaron “Mbazo” Mokoena who happens to come from Boipatong in Vaal. Mokoena is still holding a record as the most capped former Bafana Bafana player to date.  Chippa United, Coach Morgan Mammila was among the notable names who attended this coaching course.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, after the graduations, Zothwane said he was happy to be among the coaches who attended this important coaching course. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it was important for him, especially his coaching career, to attend the CAF B License Diploma Coaching Course to improve his coaching knowledge.

To date, this former Bafana Bafana midfield par excellence became a household name in South African football after he joined Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns. He was part of the now defunct Boipatong Real Rangers FC’s generation that made history when the club qualified for the BoB Save Super Bowl Cup Last 16.

This was before they suffered a 5-1 to Maritzburg City at the Zamdela Stadium in Sasolburg. Solomon Mathe and Lungisane Ndhlela were among his former teammates at Real Rangers FC who went on to make names for themselves in the South African football with Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows respectively.

“I’m really excited to be part of this group of coaches who attended this coaching course. It was great sharing the classroom with some of my teammates and those I played against. I learned so much from all of them as individuals, especially those coaches who have been there and done it. I’m looking forward to impacting this knowledge to others,” said Zothwane.

Zothwane and Mokoena made their CAF B Diploma Coaching Course practicals with local development teams as part of their assignments. To make it interesting, the two played for the same amateur team Boipatong Real Rangers FC even tough they didn’t play together.
