Local schools in a friendly match

“We started very slow and were very fortunate not to concede from the penalty spot."

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Hoerskool Vanderbijlpark and Suiderlig High School were involved in a friendly match in preparation of the forthcoming schools soccer league.

This friendly match took place at Cecil Oldridge Park on Wednesday with maim aim being to prepare their schools’ soccer teams for the league. The game started with a high pace with fast flowing football. However, Hoerskool Vanderbijlpark missed a golden opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot. They missed the penalty and this worked against their confidence as they dropped their heads.

At this stage, their opponents were dead and buried but after this miss, they regrouped and started to throw missiles at Hoerskool Vanderbijlpark in an attempt to get a goal. Suiderlig High School created clear cut opportunities but failed to convert them into goals much to the frustration of their coach, Molefi Mahlangu who was kicking his heels in frustration on the touchline as his team continued to miss chance after chance. He was screaming on the touchline demanding them to go to half-time at least leading 3-0. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after the game, Mahlangu was pleased with his team’s performance even though he believed they could have done much better than that.

“We started very slow and were very fortunate not to concede from the penalty spot. We created too many scoring chances but we couldn’t convert them and this frustrated me because this is what I always tell them, to make use of their chances. This game was very important to us because now I know where we must improve as a team and individuals. But I was happy because in the second half we started dominating the game,” said Mahlangu.
