SEBOKENG. – 67-year-old Nthabiseng Pama from Small Farm, Evaton has had enough of the sewer that leaks at her home.

Pama is worried that at her age she won’t be able to fix the wardrobe as they are built (fixed) to the wall. The family has to put their clothes in boxes.

She told Sedibeng Ster that the problem started 8 months ago, and that they had been talking to the Councillor of their ward to help them with the problem but according to Pama the Ward Councillor said the problem is big and needs replacement yet she says when she called Metsi a Lekoa they came and check and said that they need a truck to unblock the whole drain.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Pama explained how the issue of sewer will ruin her house and how disappointed she is with the Ward Councillor, stating:

“The problem started 9 months ago, the moment it started I went to the Councillor and told her that I have a problem with the sewer, it even broke my gate. She said there is nothing she can do because this whole issue is about replacement. She told me that she called Metsi a Lekoa but when I called, they told me that on one called about that kind of report, that I am the first person to call.”

According to Pama, Metsi a Lekoa people came and went to the main hole and she was told that they need a big truck to pull and unblock, I called constantly and they kept telling me they are coming until today, 9 months later. This issue does not sit well with me as my things in the house are ruined due to the sewer as it gets in the house, I am even scared that my house will fall apart. We can’t breathe the smell is so much, even in the bedroom the smell has escalated.”

Mookgo Tshabalala the Ward 29 Councillor said, “The sewer leakage of Ms Pama is not the only sewer leakage here in Small Farm, they get unblocked but her sewer problem is a pipe replacement because the pipe has collapsed. The municipality (Metsi a Lekoa) is still waiting for the budget to be able to fix the sewer pipes in Ward 29. All the sewer pipes in Small Farm have collapsed, I called Metsi a Lekoa in Ms Pama’s presence and they said the whole thing is a replacement. So, they are still waiting for a budget for the collapsed pipes.”
