This is Pulane DJ Punkas

Khanye said she is humbled by the respect she receives from her male DJ counterparts.

SEDIBENG.- Sedibeng Ster’s journalist, Zacharia Nale took time out of the office to spend time with Pulane Khanye, popularly known as DJ Punkas to find out what drives her passion.

She is one of the female DJs who is eager to make a name for herself in this industry formerly dominated by male DJs. DJ Punkas told Sedibeng Ster that apart from being a DJ, she works as a retailer and is a mother of two kids. Khanye said she started her music journey at Midcorner Chisanyama where they had ’10@10′ sessions that were hosted by Lucky Nhlapo.

“This is the man who took me under his wings and taught me how to play on the decks. I always loved music since an early age and I enjoyed each moment of it. My first love in music was R&B then Rare Soul, and I like to play different tunes that define who Punkas is. I always hear my colleagues say music is their therapy and I can attest to this. It is such a fulfillment to do what I love most, which is to entertain people through music,” said Khanye.

Some of the legends that Khanye has shared the stage with are the likes of Tbose, DJ Sentle, DJ Young, Ishmail, Paul Mtirara, Sweet Mike, DJ Semito, and Malaika to mention but a few. She also plays at prominent entertainment places in Sedibeng.

Khanye said she is humbled by the respect she receives from her male DJ counterparts who have been in this field for some time. She concluded by saying that she has learned a lot from their experience and how to be the best in this industry.
