SEBOKENG.- In Zone 12, Sebokeng a group of distinguished middle-aged individuals who call themselves the “Four Corners” recently spent a leisurely Sunday playing chess.


Unlike competitive, rated tournaments, this gathering is all about casual enjoyment. Due to their age and commitment, these chess enthusiasts have chosen this relaxed approach. Johannes Lepota, the founder of the Emfuleni Chess Club, highlighted the importance of these events and said that they aim to keep the love for chess alive, inspire young people to get involved, and provide a platform for youth to play.

The “Four Corners” go above and beyond by contributing time and resources and even preparing food, turning it into a full-day affair. At the end of each gathering, they recognize and celebrate the top three players as the “Players of the Day,” adding an extra layer of excitement and motivation. These middle-aged chess enthusiasts not only have a day of strategy and camaraderie but also continue to support and enrich the local chess community.
