Vanderbijlpark water shutdown: Water tanker schedule

A total of 20 tankers have been secured to augment water supply in all affected areas.

VANDERBIJLPARK .- Metsi-a-Lekoa Water Demand Management team jointly with Rand Water will be repairing a leaking 1075 mm reinforced concrete pipeline that supplies Vanderbijlpark reservoirs. The team will also work on the replacement of valves for future reliability of the water supply system.

Consumers supplied from the Vanderbijlpark reservoirs at Bophelong, Bophelong Extensions, Tshepiso, Boipatong, Vanderbijlpark, Bonanne and surrounding plots will be affected by the shutdown.

In a statement Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) said the team will take five days to work on the damage and restore water supply.

“Specialized material which needs reaction and curing will be used to seal the leak however, it should be noted that this repair method can be slowed down by cold temperatures. This may lead to a delay in restoration time.”

ELM said it is exploring options of supplying some of the Eastern and Southern parts of Vanderbijlpark through emergency lines, with the rest of the affected consumers supplied through water tankers.

“In an instance that emergency lines cannot be in service, water tankers will be dispatched to all affected areas.”
