SEDIBENG.- Kaizer Chiefs won their first DSTV Premier League match for the 2023/2024/ season when they beat the struggling Amazulu 3-0 at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
This was the first league victory for Amakhosi after a slow start to the season. Despite the win, Chiefs are in 11th position on the log after they played four games with their archrivals Orlando Pirates being 10th on the log with the same number of points but with a game in hand.
As things stand, SuperSport United seems to be the only team that poses a threat to Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table. These Tshwane-based teams are first and second on the log table with Sundowns at the summit of the log.
The defending champions have since won all their five opening fixtures for the 2023/2024 season accumulating 15 points with SuperSport United second on the log with 10 points but with a game in hand. If their current performance has anything to do with it, no doubt Super Sport will challenge Sundowns at the top of the table, come the end of the season.
But having said this, Orlando Pirates is another team that looks set to give Sundowns a run for their money at the top of the log. Despite their inconsistent performance, Pirates look like a well-oiled machine with fast-flowing football.
However, Chiefs cannot be ruled out after a poor start to the season. Their win on Saturday gave them a sense of belief with Coach Molefi Ntseki made a bold statement after their victory against Amazulu that it was long overdue.
This game against Amazulu was a must-win for Ntseki after the club’s faithful vented their frustration on him after they lost a game recently.
