Two killed, one injured over parking dispute at Kwa-Nduna ‘R1’ party

A trio was shot and two killed outside Kwa-Nduna Shisanyama following a mass shooting.

ZAMDELA – Two people were killed and one was left fighting for his life following a mass shooting at Kwa-Nduna Shisanyama on Saturday, August 19.

The shocking incident happened just after 01:55 in the wee hours when hundreds of patrons gathered for an R1 beer party in Zamdela.

According to eyewitnesses, an altercation over parking space ensued, after a short while, gunshots rang and bodies dropped on the ground.

Following the incident, the shooter tried to flee the scene, however, police gave chase and apprehended the suspect.

The chase happened promptly as KwaNduna lies a few meters from the doorstep of Zamdela police station.

Sedibeng Ster traced the affected families, while the father of the survivor managed to speak, the family of Lehlohonolo Radebe pleaded for a grieving space.

Speaking to the paper, Tshepiso Khomonngoe (55) father to Sello (27) shared details of the incident that left his son in hospital.

“I received a call from Sello’s siblings informing me that he was shot while he was out at a nearby nightlife establishment. What we understand is that my son and his close friend (Hloni) had a quarrel with a guy who bumped Hloni into a car. When they asked the man why he is bumping them, he took out a gun and started shooting,” he said.

Khomonngoe said his son is badly injured as he took four bullets to his lower body.

“He has four gunshots on his thighs. We are disturbed by this unfortunate incident and hope the man who did such an inhumane doing will be locked up and given life sentences,” said the grieving dad.

Free State police spokesperson Sergeant Josephine Rani said a suspect was arrested and will appear in Sasolburg Magistrate Court on Monday.

“A 33-year-old suspect has been arrested for double murder and attempted murder following the KwaNduna shooting incident. The suspect will soon appear at Sasolburg Magistrates Court on charges of murder, attempted murder, discharge of the firearm in a municipal area, handling of the firearm while under the influence, and reckless and negligent driving,” she said.

Ster tried to solicit comment from the establishment, however the owner refused to comment.  The establishment later posted a mini statement on their social media pages.

“We deeply condemn the barbaric incident that occurred on our parking area after closure. Be rest assured that the perpetrator has been apprehended. We would like to pass our sincerest condolences to the Radebe family and friends. We would also like to wish a Speedy recovery to the other victims,” read the post.
