River Square partners with the community to clothe the needy

Smook says: "This is a good initiative. Every two weeks, we call the beneficiaries to come and collect their clothes because the bins are usually overflowing by then."

VEREENIGING. – An overwhelming response from the community who donated hundreds of pre-loved clothing items for various centres housing the young and old, has once again proven that greatness can be achieved when the community unites to do good.

This is after the River Square Shopping Centre called for donations of clothing items from the community for their Mandela Day initiative.

Speaking to the River Square Marketing Manager Marinda Smook, she stated that the idea was to do a 67-meter line with the clothing received.

“We asked the community to donate their pre-loved clothing, and we had such an overwhelming response; the community came out and did their part.

“Initially, we had said that for every five items of clothing received, we would give a coffee shop voucher but people were not even that interested in the vouchers, they wanted to give back out of the goodness of their arts.”

Smook says they keep four large bins at various spots around the center for people who want to donate clothing all year around.

“This is a good initiative. Every two weeks, we call the beneficiaries to come and collect their clothes because the bins are usually overflowing by then.”

The clothes will be handed over to four charities in and around the Vereeniging area soon.

“We are thankful to the community for helping us with this initiative. We wouldn’t have done this without them,” Smook concludes.
