Family sleeps in tenant’s room after fire

SHARPEVILLE.- 37-year-old Sello Qhina, his wife and their two kids have found refuge in a small outside room, where one of his tenants lives, after a fire consumed all his belongings, as well as his house.

Qhina looked on as what has been his home for the last 30 years vanished in front of his eyes. Five other families who were also renting rooms in the house were left destitute following the fire. According to Qhina, the incident happened last week.

“I cannot say I know for sure how the fire started, but the two people who were in the house said that they saw flames coming from the roof. The fire was aggressive and there was nothing that could be saved.”

Qhina says that even the firefighters that were called to the scene struggled to put the fire out. “I am still in a state of shock. I don’t know what I am going to do as the house has to be rebuilt from scratch. My family is left with nothing at the moment.”

Qhina is more stressed about his two boys (5 and 2) who don’t have any clothes or shoes. Anyone who can assist Qhina with anything can contact him on 082 629 7651.
