Local spectators entertained over the weekend

BC FC kept the spectators on the edge of their seats with some “showboating”. 

SHARPEVILLE.-  Local soccer spectators were entertained when local teams battled it in the ‘Don’t Crime’ Top 32 Winter Games at James Ground in Philandaba on Saturday and Sunday.

It was action galore with soccer fans packing the venue to capacity to watch ‘diski nine’.

The tournament program started on Saturday with exciting games with the Amazulu and Boipatong FC’s game being decided on penalties. This was after both teams played to a goalless draw with Amazulu being declared the winners.

In the second game of the day, All Blacks beat 11 Technicians FC 4-1 in another mouth-watering encounter with Ben 10 FC beating Vaal Looters FC 5-1. However, the game of the day had to be the game between, BC FC against Hlanganani FC.

It was one-way traffic with BC FC toying around with their opponents who never offered any resistance. BC FC kept the spectators on the edge of their seats with some “showboating”.  Hlanganani FC chased their shadows for the better part of the game and at halftime, BC FC was leading 4-0. It was goals galore and after the game in the second half, the supporters demanded the referee end the game to avoid further embarrassment.

On Sunday, it was the same situation, as, despite the chilly weather, the soccer fans packed the dusty James ground to capacity to enjoy football. Manyora FC beat 14 Stars FC 5-4 on penalties after both teams failed to find the back of the net in 90 minutes in the first game of the day.

The game between Kinosi FC and Xola Moya Wam FC was also decided on penalties with Xola Moya Wam FC proceeding to the next stage of the tournament after a 4-1 win in a penalty shootout. Swidi Wodwa FC beat Bangladesh FC 1-0 in the third game of the day.

The tournament favourites COVID-19 FC made their intentions clear when they beat Young Boys FC 3-0 in another game that lived up to expectations. It was football made easy with COVID-19 FC showing why they are regarded as the tournament’s favourites.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Themba Zwelibanzi said he was overwhelmed by the quality of football displayed by the teams on Saturday and Sunday. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport, that soccer fans went home satisfied with the kind of football they watched.

“I must say, people who came never wasted their time because I do not doubt that they went home satisfied because of the kind of football they witnessed. We saw great games of football displayed by the teams both, on Saturday and Sunday,’ he told Sedibeng Ster Sport.

The games proceed this coming weekend at the same venue.
