Benfica FC receives equipment from England amateur club

"We are looking forward to a long relationship with the club to improve the standard of football in our area."

SHARPEVILLE.- Benfica FC from Sharpeville received a donation in the form of playing and training equipment from an England amateur club based in London.

The club, Blackheath Rhinos FC sent its representative to James ground in Phelandaba to hand over soccer boots, and modern training equipment to Benfica FC. This donation was received by the club’s founder member, Paul “Tsimo” Motsepe, who was overwhelmed by this generosity.

Benfica is one of the oldest amateur FC based in Sharpeville and the club has produced some of the most exciting players in South African football. Tshepang Moremi who at one stage was in Amazulu books is one of the youngsters who came through the club development structures.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Motsepe said as Benfica FC they are looking forward to forming a long working relationship with Blackheath Rhinos FC. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that part of the agreement between the two teams is that Benfica will be renamed Sharpeville Benfica in 2024.

Motsepe said the deal will involve exchanging programs in the form of administration, coaches, and players to mention but a few. This program will be taking place during the winter season and school holidays in different countries.

“As Benfica Development FC we are grateful to receive this donation from our brothers in England. It is my wish to see this relationship growing.  I’m excited because this means from now on we will work hard knowing that somebody is monitoring our progress.

“Look, having a relationship with an England football club regardless of which division is playing, is a big achievement for us especially for Sedibeng football. Rember, not long ago, Celta Vigo Development football club also clinched a deal with Celta Vigo from Spain. I can also recall Nale Academy also had a partnership with an English football club, Tottenham Spurs Academy through the Noordhoek School program in Vanderbijlpark,” concluded Motsepe.
