Makgotamishe Winter Soccer Tournament is back

"We can’t wait and I have no doubt even the Sharpeville community can’t wait for the return of this tournament."

SHARPEVILLE-. The popular Makgotamishe Winter Soccer Tournament is back after three years of absence. This winter soccer tournament is scheduled to take place at James and Pepsi dusty soccer grounds from 24 June – 15 July.

The return of the Makgotamishe Winter Soccer Tournament was announced to Sedibeng Ster Sport by Sello “Bra Zilo” Tshabalala. The last time the tournament took place was in 2020 due to the pandemic called COViD-19 which shut the country down. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Tshabalala said Makgotamishe Building Constructions has decided to bring back this once popular off-season soccer tournament.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that they considered bringing back this tournament after demand from the community and local soccer teams.

“We are excited to announce the return of the Makgotamishe Winter Soccer Tournament after three years. We decided to bring it back to the tournament after demand from the Sharpeville community, especially the teams. This was the best tournament in Sharpeville that attracted teams from as far as Sebokeng, Evaton, and even outside Vaal. This tournament was the best thing to happen in our area especially at this time of the season when the PSL teams are off the season,” said Tshabalala.

The tournament consists of the following age groups: u/11, u/13, u/15, u/17, u/19, senior teams, and masters soccer teams. The affiliation fee is free for only junior soccer teams.

For more details about the tournament, Tshabalala can be reached at 083 428 6461 or Tebello Kheswa at 079 746 6283.
