Municipal workers have announced their awareness of this problem that has been ongoing for a year. They have erected barriers and tape, which indicate their intention to effect repairs.
“That was weeks ago but nothing has happened,” says a concerned resident who has been photographing the watery scene. Her only news is that a municipal official told her he was waiting on a quotation he would then have to submit to his manager for approval. Previous repairs at other sites have been delayed because of unavailable parts. Some members of the public have cited a shortage of funds as the main reason why nothing is being done. The resident says affected streets are Stanley Avenue, flowing across Voortrekker and into a blocked storm-water drain, from where it bubbles up to street-level again and then into an unblocked storm-water drain.
