Mayor Teixeira and residents take on 5K run

When the DA announced back in 2021 that Peter Teixeira would be “RUNNING” for mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality, they probably didn't mean it that literally, but on Saturday morning the mayor actually ran in Sicelo.

MIDVAAL. -The mayor of the Midvaal Local Municipality, Alderman Peter Teixeira, and hundreds of residents took on the streets of Sicelo during the Let’s Walk with the Mayor event on Saturday morning (6 May 2023).

Teixeira ran, walked and stopped along the way to have a chat with residents of Sicelo during his 5km walk.

It has to be noted that Teixeira, a former rugby player and captain, who holds a degree in sport management science, is no stranger to sports and is probably fitter than most mayors.

“It has been very, very exciting along the route. We’ve had a large turnout this morning and we have enjoyed ourselves. We have spoken to many of our community members along the route and I see so many smiling faces,” Teixeira said during a short interview after completing his 5km walk.

The Mdvaal Local Municipality said in a statement that the aim of the event was to bring communities together and celebrate their diversity.

Representatives from various government departments such as SAPS and other stakeholders also attended the event.

Meyerton’s own “Mr. Miyagi” Sensei Herman Kordom (4th degree Black Belt in Ju Jitsu) held a martial arts and self-defence demonstration during the event.
