Gogo Selina celebrated as she turns 100 years

Gogo Selina Theletsane was recently celebrated as she turned 100-years-old. Theletsane is the first person in her family to reach this milestone.

VEREENIGING. – The oldest resident of Zilisimenye Elderly Home in Vereeniging, Selina Theletsane was celebrated in style as she turned 100-years-old. The celebration was attended by members of her family, friends, and the staff of Zilisimenye.

This year, Gogo was showered with two birthday celebrations. The first one took place on her birthday, March 16 at her home in Sharpeville while the second one was held at Zilisimenye Elderly Home on Monday, March 17. Theletsane has lived to see her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Theletsane’s son Mpaleng Theletsane (69) describes his mother as humble, respectful, and a straight talker.

“My mother raised all seven (7) of us as a single parent after our father passed away. I truly have no words as we celebrate my mother’s 100th birthday. This is something we have never experienced as a family.

“My mother is the first person to reach this age in our family and for that, we are truly blessed to have her in our lives. To this day, my mom still has an excellent memory. She knows each one of us and she never forgets people’s names. We wish her more blessings in this life.”

Mpaleng highlights the importance of keeping the elderly safe and ensuring that they are well taken care of at all times.

“A year ago we decided to bring my mother here so that we could be certain about her safety. A lot of things happen in our community and we must ensure that as our parents get older, they receive the best care and that their safety remains a priority.”

Fikile Dlamini says, “Gogo arrived here a year ago and she is our oldest resident. We have learned so much from her, she is very respectful and neat. Gogo has taught us to love God. She loves listening to the radio.”

Centre manager Khulu Dyarvane said they were happy to celebrate this milestone with Gogo Theletsane and her family.

“We would like to send our best wishes to Gogo on this milestone.”
