Pictures: Sewage floods Vereeniging resident’s yard

"I have called the municipality numerous times to report the matter. On 28 March a team from Metsi-a-Lekoa arrived here to check on the problem and left without doing anything."

VEREENIGING. – A Vereeniging resident says his home has suddenly become unpleasant after it was flooded by sewage. Katleho Thubela says he and his neighbours live in terrible conditions after a suspected blocked line caused a sewage spill.

“I have called the municipality numerous times to report the matter. On 28 March a team from Metsi-a-Lekoa arrived here to check on the problem and left without doing anything.”

Thubela told Sedibeng Ster that he is not sure what caused the problem, as a few of his neighbours have also been affected.

“I made a plan to dig a trench inside my yard to direct the sewer to go to the street. It smells terrible and I’m afraid that we will get sick,” he said.

Katleho Thubela says he has started getting sick due to his yard being constantly flooded.

Thubela says he has been visited by two teams from Metsi-a-Lekoa but in both instances, the problem could not be resolved. Ster North has since submitted an inquiry to the Emfuleni Local Municipality’s Media Relations Officer, Chuchi Radebe about the matter.

Radebe said he would look into the matter and get back to Sedibeng Ster.
