National shutdown: EFF demands Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation

The EFF wants to bring South Africa to a standstill next week during their planned national shutdown.

The EFF’s commander-in-chief, Julius Malema, said during a press conference on Wednesday (15 March 2024) that the EFF is demanding the resignation of the country’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, and an end to load shedding.

According to Malema, during the nationwide protest, the EFF also wants to highlight issues that affect the youth.

According to Malema, these include issues such as unemployment, access to higher education, challenges around water and electricity, potholes and the condition of roads, high levels of crime and violence against women and children, as well as corruption.

According to Malema, Ramaphosa broke his oath of office.

According to Malema, the EFF informed all its members and the public about the importance of the “shutdown” and the reasons for it.

Malema asked residents of South Africa to keep the EFF’s nationwide ‘shutdown’ in mind when making plans for Monday 20 March 2023.

According to Malema, the country’s streets will be occupied.

He says shopping centres, shops and business owners have been warned because the EFF wants to avoid looting.

“We don’t want looting on March 20, but we know that if shops are open people exploit the situation and get involved in illegal activities. We don’t say in any of our letters that people should close their shops, we just make them aware that there will be a protest action.”
