Couples therapy, a necessity for every twosome

More than 50 couples from all walks of life, in and around the Vaal region, attended a breathtaking couples' therapy event at Riviera Hotel on Saturday, February 25.

VEREENIGING – According to the organizer of the event, the need to seal the month of love with these sessions came from the popularized idiom “umjolo is a scam or pandemic”.

And the greatly anticipated event was said to be a learning curve to many and a hope bearer for many.

While a two-thirds majority of attendees were a married duo, a larger number of the audience were couples getting to know one another, and some on a honeymoon phase.

Different speakers who gave motivational talks at ‘Couple Therapy’ are experienced motivators who are married for many years and encountered demotivating encounters in their rosy-looking but toxic relationships.

Speakers varied their talks according to the toxicities they came across in their umjolo.

Financial lessons, medical complications leading to break-up, cheating, and many other topics formed the lesson for the lovey-dovey couples who filled the venue.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Organizer, and Astrology Advisor, Gift Dlamini said “I saw how marriages fail in Mzansi and how many people are experiencing a high rate of divorce. Many people have lost hope in love calling it all sorts of names, with some calling it a pandemic and somehow it is a scam. With this event, I want to bring love back into existence.

“We are having eight speakers, and all of them will be motivating couples in the different spheres in the space of love,” she said.

Dlamini said the numbers showed that couples therapy is a necessity for every duo embarking on the love journey.

“The universe just wanted me to start intimately. We had planned for hundreds of couples but decided to tone it down to a lesser number. And seeing the couples being here, really proves my motive”.

Asked why the need to revive couples in order to make it in their bumpy relationships, Dlamini said she knows divorce firsthand.

“Coming from a failed marriage, having experienced how my parents hated each other, made me want to hate love. I was hospitalized due to that situation and learned that I can change the perspective and allow people love, love,” she said.

A motivating couple, Nkosinathi and Karabo Zwane, married for 19 years shared their infertility journey with couples saying their story brings hope to many undergoing the same problems.

“We bringing awareness because when we were going through the same phase, we didn’t have a couple we could look up to. We give people clinical advice and refer them to the right specialist and help them get their miracle children,” said Karabo.

“Through proper channels that we decided to invest in, we had our miracle baby and ever since then, we never had another one,” said Nkosinathi.

One attending couple, Dieketseng Ramokgwase and Norman Nhlapho dating for two years said “we are working on getting married and we felt the need to get the guidance we could get, hence we decided to attend. Our generation gets into many problems in marriage because they don’t get such advice hence marriages fail”.
