Taxi overturned – 16 injured

VANDERBIJLPARK. – 16 People were injured this morning after their taxi overturned on the N1 south-bound highway near the R57 turnoff in Vanderbijlpark.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 08:06 and found the taxi parked on the side of the road. Paramedics noticed that one of the rear wheels of the taxi had fallen off the vehicle.  16 people, including the driver, were found seated on the grassy embankment. Paramedics assessed all of the patients and found that they had sustained only minor injuries in this incident. Fortunately, no serious or fatal injuries were found.

Paramedics treated all the patients and thereafter transported them to Kopanong Hospital for further treatment. It is understood that one of the wheels of the taxi fell off while it was moving. This apparently caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle and cause it to overturn. The taxi was pushed upright by the occupants on the scene. Local authorities will be investigating further.
