They must wake up and smell the coffee!

"We must give credit where it is due and stop being armchair critics."

SEDIBENG.- I thought I was not going to entertain this, but I feel it is important to help those with selective memories of football to understand that Mamelodi Sundowns is not the first team to sign all the “best” players in PSL.

For those with selective memories once upon a time, Kaizer Chiefs was known as the “Phefeni Glamours Boys” and regarded as the best team in the history of South African football. Just like Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs used to sign the best players in the African continent. It was unstoppable and dominated the domestic football scene winning every trophy on offer and was called the top specialist.

I beg to differ with Jabu Mahlangu’s (formerly Pule) recent utterances to claim that Sundowns is killing football for signing quality players. He went on and said that this is also weakening Bafana Bafana.

How so?

As they say, football is a game of opinions and Jabu Mahlangu is also entitled to his opinion. But the same Mahlangu forgets that at one stage Kaizer Chiefs was dominating domestic football because they had the luxury to sign the best players in the African continent.

The question is, what is the difference with Mamelodi Sundowns if TOUCHLINE may ask?

TOUCHLINE disagrees with those who believe the success of Mamelodi Sundowns has something to do with their financial muscle. This has nothing to do with their financial muscle but credit must go to the coaches. For example, since the days of Stanley “Screamer” Tshabalala, Sundowns has always had a unique style of play, known as “piano and shoeshine”.

Those who think that Sundowns’ success has something to do with their financial muscle must wake up and smell the coffee. TOUCHLINE finds Jabu Mahlangu’s utterances misleading especially to those with little football knowledge.

This is a problem when we gave every Tom, Dick, and Harry a platform in the media to rubbish our football.
