Evaton and Sebokeng residents told to use water wisely

"Watering of gardens and hosing down of cars must be avoided at all costs.”

SEBOKENG. – The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has asked the community of Evaton and Sebokeng to lower their water consumption.

The municipality said that reservoir levels have been fluctuating between 20% and 24% since Thursday (12 January 2023), when Rand Water systems were affected by power failures. It further said that yesterday, Wednesday, the Langerand reservoir was 20% full and not improving due to increased consumption.

“The municipality is aware of water supply challenges affecting consumers at Evaton and parts of Sebokeng. This is due to low water levels at Rand Water’s Langerand Reservoir and increasing water demand on account of the heat wave.”

The ELM further said that it has a limited number of water tankers and as a result, tankers will be dispatched as moving targets according to requests submitted by Ward Councillors.

“Consumers who have water supply are advised to use it for domestic consumption only (drinking, cooking and bathroom) until the system stabilizes.”
