Tons of stolen cows worth R360 000 recovered in De Deur

In the early hours of Thursday morning, about 50 cows were stolen in a farm outside extension 15, Sonderwater.

DE DEUR – The owner, together with other livestock owners, went on a search to find the missing cows without luck.

A day later, the owner of the stolen livestock received a tip-off, leading him to where his cows were hidden.

This is after, police arrested men and impounding a Toyota Avanza used in a commission of crime.

Police spokeswoman Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said they also reserved a call about a white Avanza in the De Deur precinct leading a flock of cows to one of the plots in Tree Street.

Sedibeng Cluster police were dispatched to the location, where they recovered the cows, impounded the Avanza and arrested headsman.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, robbed owner Reverend Rakoko Betha (66) said he was pained when he was told that his livestock went missing.

“This was my first time being robbed and I was very broken because this is my only source of income,” he said.

Betha added that he relied on faith and it sure came for him.

“When I was told my cows were gone, I prayed to God that I find them back and he sure came through for me. But the biggest role players are those other farmers who went through tick and thin for me until my cows were found. If those cows were gone forever, I would have lost 360 000 worth of cash,” he added.

Sergeant Makhale said following a tip-off, their members swiftly responded to the scene.

“Our members attended to a case of stock theft following a tip-off. When they got to the suspected farm, they arrested suspects following investigation. A white Avanza was impounded and stolen livestock was seized and handed back to the owner. All suspects were detained at De Deur SAPS for further investigations,” she said.
