Pitbull restrains runaway sangoma cow

A burning topic on Pitbull ban has been talk of the town for many months now following tragic incidents of children being mauled by the so-called vicious dogs.

SEBOKENG – But the Mohlambi family in zone 12, Sebokeng believe that Pitbull owners should be given a chance to raise their dogs, as not all of them are brutal and uncontrollable.

This is after their [Mhlambi’s] cow, bought for a sangoma ritual over the weekend escaped its death, attacking several neighbours before it was restrained by a Pitbull. How the 1-year-old Pitbull managed to calm the infuriated cow still remains ‘talk of the city’.

According to the Mhlambi’s they had already given up when their imfihlo (hidden) cow cut loose and ran away.

“We were preparing to move the cow to its hiding place where our thwasa was going to reveal it. The cow cut the rope and ran madly, attacking several people including our neighbour who is now admitted at Levai Mbatha Clinic. When we saw how furious that cow was, we had lost all hope to stop it,” said Isaac Mohlambi (65).

“We ran behind it until we got on the other block. The owner of a Pitbull sent his dog to stop the cow. The dog snatched the cow and put it on ground and when it was down, the owner commanded it to get back in the yard, that’s how we got our cow,” said Isaac.

When the Ster team traced the family, the cow was restrained in a trailer, ready to be hidden for the festivities.

“ The Pitbull is our hero. If it wasn’t for it, we wouldn’t be continuing with the festivities. Imagine our thwasa coming home to a lost cow,” said another family member, Nthabiseng Modise (37).

The dog owner Bongani Radebe (32) said he has trained his dog and that is how he managed to send it to stop the cow without fear.

“My dog is well trained and wouldn’t harm anyone unless I set it on them. I had to send Imir [the pitbull] to save the day because that cow couldn’t be stopped, I saw how dangerous and wild it was. I then spoke to the family to allow Imir to restrain the cow. When they allowed it, I set the dog on it,” he said.

“If my dog didn’t stop that cow, no one would have, that’s how crazy the cow was,” he added.
