Midvaal has undergone a radical change from quaint country area to booming tourist, recreational and industrial centre in Southern Gauteng.
Midvaal has grown from 60 000 residents in 2001 to more than 100 000 today. A report by Gauteng’s Provincial Government ranked Midvaal as the province’s top municipality in terms of quality of life. Unemployment in the DA-run Midvaal Municipality sits at 12%. This is 12% lower than the national average which was sitting at 24.5% in the fourth quarter of 2015. It is also 14% lower than the Gauteng provincial average, which sat at 27.6% in the fourth quarter of 2015.
This shows that where the DA governs it is making progress.
The DA intends to bring this good governance that cuts corruption and creates jobs to many more municipalities across South Africa following the upcoming Local Government Elections on August 3 this year.
The DA government in Midvaal has achieved this accomplishment through a number of job creation strategies which include the simplification of procedures and by-laws, making it easier for new businesses to establish themselves as well as ensuring that turn-around times for land use applications are shortened for prospective investors.
By encouraging and assisting both large and small businesses, the economy of this municipality has continued to grow despite the challenges of the global economic crisis and the national economic downturn of the past decade. Growing the economy and creating jobs remains the DA’s top priority. Our growth and jobs plan released earlier this year details our plan to generate a dynamic economy that includes all South Africans and paves the way for a very different future: one of job creation, innovation, entrepreneurship, investment and growth. The DA will continue working hard for residents where we govern to ensure that every South African can live in freedom, is treated fairly and has access to opportunities that will help improve quality of life and instil a sense of pride in being a South African. South Africans have an opportunity to vote for change at the upcoming Local Government Elections on August 3. Vote for the DA if you want to be part of our winning team!
