SBG treasurer arrested for Lakeside High School hijacking, kidnapping and robbery

On the 24 of November, 2022, a principal and a teacher at Lakeside High School were hijacked, kidnapped, robbed and dumped at Poortjie cemetery along the N1.

LAKESIDE – What the victims of this brazen crime didn’t know, was that a Treasurer General of the School Governing Body (SGB) was involved.

On Wednesday 30, November, 2022, the SGB and three other suspects including her boyfriend, were arrested for hijacking, kidnapping, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Sedibeng Ster ran an article on the heinous crime where the principal and her colleague were hijacked at gun point when they were leaving the school premises.

At the time, hijackers kidnapped the duo before robbing them off their belongings and emptying the school account off an undisclosed amount of money from banking apps on one of the victims.

Following a tip-off on the kidnapping, Sedibeng District Trio Task Team, Orange Farm cops together with other law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the crime scene.

Among other things, a wardrobe was also seized during the arrest of the SGB Treasurer.

Upon their arrival, the law enforcers managed to arrest two suspects while they continued to rob the victims.

At the scene, an unlicensed firearm, live ammunition, motor vehicle used for the commission of crime were recovered.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sedibeng Cluster Police Spokesman Sergeant Shaan Motsapi confirmed the recent arrest.

“After thorough investigation, the 36-year-old SGB Treasure at the school was arrested together with her boyfriend in connection to the hijacking and kidnapping of the principal and her colleague,” he said.

“New furniture was seized from the SGB’s house that she bought on the 25th of November (black Friday). This is after the suspect failed to explain the huge amount of money in her bank account,” he added.

Motsapi said the four suspects appeared briefly before the Vereeniging Magistrate Court facing charges of hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearm, live ammunition and robbery.

“The suspects remained in custody for their bail application,” he said.
