From Vaal to Sandton

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Ladies and gentlemen please stand on your feet to welcome Xolani Manqoba Phiri (23) who is another rising star in the music industry to have come from Sedibeng (Vaal). No doubt, if his latest hit “Vaal to Sandton” is anything to go by, Phiri is destined to become a household name in the South African music. He is popular among  young people because of this song “Vaal To Sandton” on social media platforms.

Phiri was born in Mpumalanga, Middelburg and his parents relocated to Gauteng where he found his passion for music. Not only  is music his passion but also his favourite form of art through which he tells stories. Popularly know as “No Drama”, Phiri aims to make people happy through his music and hopes that people will receive it that way. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Phiri said that his aim is also to achieve the status of a role model to a lot of young people, especially in Vaal.

Apart from music, as a learner he fell in love with rugby and was very talented, but eventually he had to decide between the two and he told Sedibeng Ster that after he completed his matric, he realised that his true love is music.

“I was good in rugby and I thought this is what I wanted until I finished matric and I realised that music was my life. However, I didn’t persuade it immediately as I was not sure what to expect. I took my chance and I must say I enjoy each and every moment of my music career.  I want to be a role model to my fellow residents and I encourage them to think outside of the box. I want to show them everything is possible if you put your mind to it, and our situations or obstacles in life shouldn’t determine our future,” said Phiri who revealed to Sedibeng Ster that his monicker, “No Drama”, was given to him by Isaac Mokgabudi, who is well known as “Goodguystyle”, one of the talented DJs from Alexandra.
