Target Shooting Sport to be launched in Bophelong

The sport will be launched for the local learners from Bophelong High School in Bophelong next month, December.

BOPHELONG.-   This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster by the retired Emfuleni Local Municipality’s (ELM) Senior Sports Control Officer Prof Sebeela, who, together with Kaki “Wire” Mokoena are the brains behind this project.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, the two veteran sports administrators believe that there is a need for such sport in the region, for Sedibeng to be the first of its kind. Sebeela said that he approached Hippo Greek Target Shooting Club to help  to launch this sport which forms part of Olympics Games.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he developed interest for this sport when he was still working for ELM and he wants to introduce it to the disadvantaged communities in Sedibeng, further adding that they have already identified ten school children who will be trained to be part of this project . The ten children are five school boys and five school girls that will undergo target shooting sport in preparation for the World Championships.

“Look, I made research about this sport and then I approached Hippo Greek Target Shooting Club and they promised to help us through their federation to launch this project. We all know that in every community there is soccer (and netball) but we wanted to start something different, to begin with the community in Muvhango, Bophelong. We will be launching this project on 3 December with the ten learners we have identified, and we agreed with their parents and the school. We also got a go ahead from the Department of Education and we are looking forward to making this project a success,” he concluded.
