Banyana Ba Style suffer 4-0 in the CAF WCL final

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies team suffered a shock defeat when AS FAR beat them 4-0 in the CAF Women’s Champions League which came to an end in Morocco last night.

SEDIBENG.-  Banyana Ba Style, as Sundowns ladies is affectionately known failed to defend their title which they won in 2021. They were up against the hosting team in AS FAR who came into this encounter well prepared. However, this was the first defeat for Sundowns ladies with their impressive groups stage performance for the better part of the tournament.

The host nation’s team were in the driving seat for the better part of the game even though Sundowns ladies Coach, Jerry Tshabalala made a few substitutions in search of an equalizer. However, it was not to be, with the hosting team throwing everything to their opponents. Sundowns had no answers how to stop the ‘on fire’ AS FAR Ladies and the score is a true reflection of the game. Sundowns ladies goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini made few brilliant saves but eventually the home team broke the deadlock. At this stage, it was a one side affair with AS FAR dominating the proceedings. Despite the defeat, it was a great advert of African women football. Speaking after the game, Sundowns ladies Coach, Jerry Tshabalala acknowledged the fact that their opponents were better than them.

“Congratulations to SA FAR ladies and they deserve the win because they were the better team on the day. We came here with one thing in our mind but it was never to be. Having said this, I’m very proud of my players they came here to represent their country and this was our first defeat in the tournament. We have gained a lot of experience competing in this tournament and this will benefit our country, especially Banyana Banyana ahead of FIFA Women’s World Cup,” said Tshabalala.
