Senior officer accused of sexual harassment

The charges were laid against the senior officer after he apparently repeatedly asked one of the members, a colonel for sexual favours. When the colonel refused the advances she was suspended.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – A sexual harassment case amongst two cases has apparently been opened against a high ranking officer at the Vanderbijlpark Police Station without any progress.

On Tuesday morning the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) members picketed outside the Vanderbijlpark Police Station pleading for the case to be investigated and be put on the roll. The members said that they needed the accused to be removed from office and charged accordingly.

“No one is special. All we want is justice to take its course,” said a POPCRU shop steward. The charges were laid against the senior officer after he apparently repeatedly asked one of the members, a colonel for sexual favours. When the colonel refused the advances she was suspended.
Provincial SAPS spokesperson Colonel Lungile Dlamini confirms that three charges against the accused have been opened. One for sexual harassment and two counts of intimidation and defeating the ends of justice.
“We are conducting an internal investigation into the matter,” said Dlamini. The names of the senior officer and that of the victim cannot be revealed as investigations are ongoing.
