Former Pirates captain predicts win over Sundowns

In a previous interview with Sedibeng Ster Sport at MooiVaal Media offices, former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi predicted that Orlando Pirates was capable of stopping Mamelodi Sundowns.

SEDIBENG.- A rejuvenated Pirates hammered Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 in the second semifinals of the MTN8 Cup at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday.

Lekgwathi had told Sedibeng Ster Sport in an exclusive interview during the MTN8 Cup trophy tour at MooiVaal Media offices prior to the second leg semi-finals over the weekend that a win over Sundowns was possible. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he was impressed with the players Pirates signed, and on Saturday they delivered.

“I told you the last time I was there that Pirates was capable to stop Mamelodi Sundowns and many people thiought I was crazy but look what happened on Saturday. Not many saw it coming even though I warned them. This team reminded me of our team that won tribble in two success seasons, and I have no doubt that they will go all the way to win this MTN8 Cup.

I can bet with my last cent, Orlando Pirates will be crowned the MTN8 Cup champions if their current performance is anything to go by. I think happy days are back for the club’s supporters,” said Lekgwathi, who is one of the MTN8 Cup ambassadors.

In the other second leg semifinals, Amazulu advanced to the MTN8 Cup finals after they played to 1-1 (aggravate) against Kaizer Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. Amazulu needed only a draw after these two played 1-1 in the first leg semi-final at FNB Stadium.
