Meyerton SAPS declares war on drugs

The Meyerton SAPS and stakeholders recently declared war on drugs.

In line with the South African Police Service (SAPS) efforts to engage effectively with the stakeholders and the community, the Meyerton SAPS in partnership with the local Councillors in Midvaal Local Municipality, Department of Community Safety, Department of Correctional Services, Agape Lerato, NICRO, SANCA, Jamela Rehabilitation Centre, Zebulon Rehabilitation Centre, Life line, Alpha Trauma Centre and Kotulong, declared war against drugs and committed to fight substance abuse.

The community was addressed about the services rendered by the different stakeholders and crimes related to drug use. The Rehabilitation Centres educated members of the community about what a drug rehabilitation programme entails and how to get drug addicts enrolled for help.

The Station Commander, Colonel Victor Lepitla, called upon the community of Sicelo to work closely with the police in curbing drug sales, drug related crimes and drug abuse.

After the event, the South African Police Service Management in Meyerton embarked on a walkabout and a comfort visit led by Councillors to households affected by drug abuse and a bereaved family of a drug addict. They also donated food parcels that will assist these families.

The Station Commander Colonel Moeti Victor Lepitla says he wishes to thank all stakeholders who worked together with Meyerton SAPS in making the ‘HO LEKANE KA DI THETHEFATSI’ event a success and encourages the partnership in the implementation of the #DrugsMustFall action plan to be drafted and adopted by stakeholders.
