Motsamai urges women to take up space in farming and agricultural sector

Midvaal Local Municipality’s MMC for Development and Planning, Mokete Motsamai has urged women to take up space in both the farming and agricultural sector by heeding opportunities given to them.

SICELO. – Motsamai was speaking following the recent engagement with farmers and people from the agricultural sector in Midvaal. The engagement was held at the Multipurpose Centre in Sicelo.

“In the spirit of women’s month, I urge women not to underestimate their potential with the belief that agriculture is a male dominated industry and therefore their contributions will not make a difference.

“We are committed to providing quality services and support to emerging farmers specifically in this demography as they are able to incorporate and share experiences with each other to grow the industry.”

Motsamai said the purpose of the session was to give progress on the formation of the Midvaal Farmer’s Association and to communicate the intention of the association, the programmes and projects that will be implemented by the association.

The engagement was attended by officials from the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Midvaal Farmers Association Interim Committee, Local Stakeholders and Farmers.

“We will continue to support our farmers to contribute immensely to the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment,” Motsamai said.
